| Term | Meaning |

| UPC | The barcode number that identifies a whole release. |
| ISRC | The code that identifies one recording (one track). |
| ISWC | The code that identifies a musical work (the song as written), used by publishers. |
| © line | Copyright of the artwork and text: year and owner. |
| ℗ line | Ownership of the sound recording: year and owner. |
| Main artist | The artist or artists the release belongs to. |
| Featured artist | A guest artist on a track, shown as “feat.” by the stores. |
| Composer / Lyricist | The people who wrote the music and the words, by legal name. |
| Catalogue transfer | Moving a release from another distributor, keeping its UPC and ISRCs. |
| Pre-order date | The date fans can pre-save or pre-order before release. |
| Split sheet | An agreement recording each person’s share of a release. |
